Youth Programs

The youth programs effected kids, adults, and communities all over the world. Here's a few of the success stories:

Youth Service America helped fund the local "National Youth Service Day" event. The goal was to recruit youth volunteers who "will create a community volunteer web page and an on-line calendar designed to give non-profits and disadvantaged community members assistance in conquering the challenges of information technology". The Volunteer Center Web site resulted.

Bridgestone Firestone donated $4,000 to the RECA Foundation in the name of Bruce McComb and Nickole Evans for their service to the community.

Local contributions were received from CH2MHILL, Bechtel Hanford, and HEHF.

Funding

In 2000 we saw a broadening of in-kind goods and services as well as financial support. In-kind donations included two, 3-bedroom apartments, computer equipment, and services valued at about $160,000. Hundreds of volunteer hours valued at about $260,000 were donated.

The Columbia Business Directory (CBD) is growing. This extensive, local business databases is a beginning Web presence for many business. The revenue from mini-web page listings and directories (e.g. Tri-City Area Chamber of Commerce)

Fee for Service - Department of Social and Health Services ( DSHS): This year we took 3 welfare-to-work employees and provided hands on experience with networking, computer repair and training. This resulted in two of the interns obtaining high paying jobs

Fee for Service Department of - Department of Developmental Disabilities ( DDD) and Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR): We provided over 20 assessments (mostly children) to determine what kind of computer, if any, would help the clinets. Most of the children received a computer with our standard suite of software developed over the past several years. We have seen marked improvement in academics as well as social behavior.

Fee for Service - Non Profit Resource Center (NPRC): 10 non-profits became members of the Columbia Basin Public Information Network (CBPIN). The NPRC provided access to donated software, recycled computer equipment, technology upgrades, donated web hosting, and technology consulting. These agencies saved hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars, that they used to better serve their clients.

Millennium Dreamers

The RECA Foundation family truly became the Millenium Dreamers this year, with much hope to continue our programs to support the community in their technology needs.
